Health, Safety & Wellbeing

ZERO work-related fatalities between 2010 and 2016*

ADCB invests in many programmes that help maintain our employees' health, provide a safe work environment and encourage work-life balance. We provide medical insurance to all of our employees, their spouses and dependents (up to three children under 18 years of age), with appropriate differentiation, depending on employment level. To promote  workplace safety, our full-time Health & Safety Officer holds regular fire-safety training and fire drills  in all Bank branches and operational premises. To foster work-life balance, we have adopted many procedures to encourage employees to take their annual leave and have created an internal policy and practices to encourage management and employees to fully utilise their leave.

Promoting Good Health

In 2016, ADCB continued to deliver free Health & Wealth check-ups to the community through roadshows hosted at select ADCB branches and sales centres throughout the UAE, in collaboration with Prime Healthcare Group. Customers, staff and members of the public were invited to receive free basic health tests (blood pressure, BMI and blood sugar), complimentary vouchers and discounts on other select medical services and informative literature. The Roadshows also provide a comprehensive wealth and financial planning session, during which customers were given the opportunity to meet with dedicated ADCB Relationship Managers and have their current financial circumstances, liquidity position, and short-term as well as long-term plans reviewed.

Raising Staff Awareness

ADCB has been organizing health and wellness activities for its staff for several years. In 2016, ADCB once again held its annual ADCB staff seminar to support our breast cancer awareness campaign during ADCB Pink Month. Under the "Make a Difference" theme, staff learned about different ways that actions, whether big or small, can make a difference towards eradicating the disease. Guest speakers shared stories about fundraising through mountaineering, the impact that donations have made on the research front, and medical facts, risk factors, the importance of early detection as a preventive tool and other helpful tips. Staff were invited to participate in ADCB-sponsored activities that promote fitness and wellbeing and help raise awareness for breast cancer and early detection during Pink Month.

Staff awareness of Health & Safety was also disseminated through a new quarterly internal communications circular.

In addition, several initiatives were introduced towards promoting health and safety, such as:

  • fire drills across 32 ADCB branches
  • 240 ADCB employees received fire warden training and certification by a civil defence-approved training provider
  • 165 ADCB employees were trained and certified as first aiders

ISO 14000 & 18001 Certifications

Abu Dhabi Commercial Engineering Services (ADCE) became the first ADCB subsidiary to earn ISO certifications for its management of environmental impacts and occupational health and safety risks (HSE) in August 2013. The certifications cover ADCE's office and site facilities. In 2016, ADCE underwent its yearly surveillance audit visit to ensure continuous maintenance of its integrated management system for quality, health and safety, and the environment. ADCE also focused on employee health by ensuring healthy conditions for employees and visitors, and by conducting periodical fire drills and medical drills to test first aid capabilities and prepare for emergencies.
