Abu Dhabi Commercial Bank launches new employment initiative for Emarati women

'Tamooha' is the first of its kind in the Middle East banking sector

Abu Dhabi, 18 June 2014:Abu Dhabi Commercial Bank (ADCB) is continuing its commitment to local community by launching a talent development platform that aims to empower Emarati women's role in the employment market. The new platform, named 'Tamooha', will provide job opportunities that suit women's social norms and family responsibilities by enabling them to choose to work from, or near, their own home or in ADCB's dedicated women-only operations center in Al Ain.

Additional centers are being developed in the Western Region and the Northern Emirates in order to accommodate a total of more than 300 female employees. Employees will be responsible for non- customer facing roles including data entry, auditing and validating the accuracy of transactions received from branches and call centres, such as new account requests, clearing checks as well as outbound customer experience calls.

'Tamooha' is part of ADCB's ambition to promote Emaratisation at various administrative levels in line with the directives of the UAE's leadership. This includes providing more opportunities and bigger roles for Emarati women and creating an appropriate environment to help them achieve their ambitions to lead a successful career path that contributes to the growth of this vital sector.

Ala'a Eraiqat, ADCB Chief Executive Officer and Board Member, announced the launch of the platform during a press conference held at the program's first center in Al Ain. The event was held in the presence of H.E. Mohamed Sultan Al Hameli, Vice Chairman and Chairman of the Human Resources Board Committee at ADCB, a number of members of the Board and the bank's executive management team.

"At ADCB, we're committed to supporting the right of Emarati women to pursue their careers without compromising their social norms. We are proud to be the first bank to provide a unique career structure that enables Emarati women to join the workforce while meeting their everyday life responsibilities. As such, the women will be able to agree a suitable work plan with the bank using flexible hours and part-time systems," said Ala'a Eraiqat.

Employees can choose to work from home or from ADCB's dedicated women-only operations center in Al Ain. The center is separated from the bank's branch network and is entirely staffed and managed by women, making it ideally suited for Emarati women as customer interaction is not required. "We have already received encouraging feedback on the initiative and have hired 100 women in addition to the women administrators in charge of work teams who are responsible for training and supervising operations," Ala'a Eraiqat went on to say.

Since work under the program does not entail actual presence onsite in the operations centers, women may choose to work from, or near, home. In this instance, the bank has developed an innovative and secure electronic computer system that ensures maximum information security within a safe digital working environment.

For his part, H.E. Mohamed Sultan Al Hameli commented, "Tamooha is a pioneering initiative in the UAE and the whole region. Its purpose is to empower the next generation of banking sector female workers in the UAE, without affecting their responsibilities towards family members. ADCB aspires to encourage other institutions and entities to apply similar initiatives and the bank is ready to share the results and details of Tamooha with any institution considering similar programs."

Ali Darwish, Group Head of Human Resources at ADCB, said, "As part of our commitment to 'Absher' initiative launched by His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, may Allah protect him, to enhance the participation of national citizens in the employment market, we at ADCB continuously strive to create better job opportunities in all departments through innovative solutions that contribute to encouraging Emarati men and women to pursue their career path in the banking sector. This initiative is a crucial step towards achieving successful Emaratization of the banking sector and encouraging women engagement in the field."

Tamooha is the latest program from ADCB that aims to empower Emarati women in banking sector roles. In 2008 the bank launched a call center in Al Ain, which is managed and staffed entirely by a well-trained women crew with all operations run entirely by female staff. The center has proven to be a great success and a shining example of how empowering women in the workforce has a positive impact on society.
