Friday 10th of October 2014 - More than 700 people participated in the ADCB Zayed Sports City 5 and 10km Run, rendering this October's event, the most successful edition of the run yet. The event raised funds for Al Jalila Foundation in their support for breast cancer research in the presence Sheikh Khalifa bin Sultan bin Hamdan Al Nahyan, who gave away the prizes and awards to the wining athletes.
Steve Watson of Abu Dhabi Striders, was thrilled with the turn-out. He said: "It was the most successful run that we have done at Zayed Sports City. It was a magnificent atmosphere with it being a charity race and some people took part wearing pink clothing. When we have runners from eight years old to 60 years old, it really is a testament to the event. The Zayed Sports City events have only been running for three years and year on year it has gone from strength to strength. And with it being the first race of the season, and on a very hot day, the response was magnificent with people of different abilities taking part. It was great to see the community embrace this opportunity in the UAE."
Fiona Darby, Head of Sponsorships at ADCB said: "ADCB is committed to this cause through a number of initiatives and events and is seeing more and more engagement for breast cancer awareness events in the UAE. The ADCB Zayed Sports City 5 and 10k Run Series witnessed an overwhelming response and we are delighted to have hosted over 700 runners and a wonderful spectator and supporter turn-out."
She said "Support and positive attitude among all runners was fantastic and we are extremely happy to have raised further awareness of breast cancer. ADCB is dedicated to continue to champion this very worthy cause. While the pink race was focused on Breast Cancer Research for Al Jalila Foundation, future races in January and March will continue to support the Special Care Centre Abu Dhabi."
More information on how to get involved in the next two ADCB Zayed Sports City 5k & 10km runs will follow towards the end of the year. The next 2 race dates are: 9th January 2015 and the final event on the 6th March 2015. Plenty of time to train!
