What is a One-Time Password (OTP)?

A One-Time Password (OTP) is a randomly generated number which ADCB will SMS and/or email you when you initiate certain transactions on ADCB Personal Internet Banking/Mobile Banking App. This is a compulsory second-level authentication, required from you to complete certain transactions.

The One-Time Password (OTP) can be received via an SMS to your mobile phone as well as an email to your email id registered with ADCB.

How does the One-Time Password (OTP) work?

When you initiate any of the select transactions on ADCB Personal Internet Banking/Mobile Banking App, you will be required to enter a One-Time Password (OTP) as a second level of authentication to confirm that the transaction is authorised by you. This One-Time Password (OTP) will be delivered to you via SMS or email or both as per choice.

Will the login to ADCB Personal Internet Banking/Mobile Banking App change? Will I need a One-Time Password (OTP) to login?

No. You only need your One-Time Password (OTP) after logging in, if you are already a registered user on ADCB Personal Internet Banking/Mobile Banking App. When you perform certain online transactions, you will be required to generate this One-Time Password (OTP) and use it online.

Why is this One-Time Password (OTP) process introduced?

One-Time Password (OTP) is an added security measure. It further secures your financial transactions.

In case, an unauthorized person gets to know your User id and login Password, he will not be able to misuse the funds in your account/ card as the OTP authentication requirement will prevent him from doing so.

The One-Time Password (OTP) is system generated randomly and instantly and sent only to you on your mobile phone.

Are my accounts secure without One-Time Password (OTP)?

How do I generate the One-Time Password (OTP)?

It is a simple process. Just initiate the transaction and follow the simple instructions on the screen. An One-Time Password (OTP) is system generated randomly, instantly and sent only to you on your mobile phone.

What are the transactions to which One-Time Password (OTP) will apply? OR Do I have to enter a One-Time Password (OTP) for every transaction or every session?

No. The One-Time Password (OTP) applies only to select online transactions currently, as under:

  • Registering for ADCB Personal Internet Banking/Mobile Banking App
  • Regenerating a forgotten password
  • Changing your password
  • Making a funds transfer
  • Paying Etisalat bills

Within how much time should I receive my One-Time Password (OTP)?

ADCB systems will send out the One-Time Password (OTP) almost instantly and should be received by you on your mobile within minutes.

What is the validity of each One-Time Password (OTP)?

The One-Time Password (OTP) will be valid for 10 minutes from the time of generation, after which it expires.

In case of One-Time Password (OTP) expiry, the transaction just needs to be cancelled by you and re-initiated where the One-Time Password (OTP) is generated again.

What happens if the One-Time Password (OTP) has expired or my Internet Banking/Mobile Banking App session has timed out?

No need to worry, just reinitiate the transaction and generate a new One-Time Password (OTP) to complete it.

Do I need to retain my One-Time Password (OTP) for logging in next time or for another transaction? Should I delete it from my SMS message box?

As the name suggests, each OTP is for single use only. It has to be generated separately for each transaction.

If multiple transactions are being carried out, OTP is generated for each of those transactions.

After using the OTP on ADCB Personal Internet Banking/Mobile Banking App and completing the transaction, it is advisable to delete the SMS from your mobile phone message box.

What should I do if my mobile number is not updated?

You should immediately contact ADCB to get the details updated. You also have the option to request the One-Time Password (OTP) to be emailed to your email id registered in ADCB’s record (which is also displayed on screen) during the process.

Can I turn off the One-Time Password (OTP)?

No, the OTP applies only to certain select transactions and has been introduced to safeguard your interests in an easy and convenient manner as compared to some other complicated methods followed in the industry.

Can I continue using ADCB Personal Internet Banking/Mobile Banking App without the One-Time Password (OTP)?

Yes, you can view and access your accounts/ cards without the need for One-Time Password (OTP), if you are a registered user or after you have registered the first time using the One-Time Password (OTP). The One-Time Password (OTP) will only be required carrying out certain transactions detailed earlier.
